Medical Errors in FL: Leapfrog Releases Latest Hospital Grades

More than a third of Florida hospitals received an A grade from the latest grades released by the nonprofit Leapfrog, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Leapfrog advocates for safer healthcare, seeking transparency and prevention of things like medical errors and medical malpractice.

Thirty-seven percent of Florida hospitals received an A grade from Leapfrog. Orlando Regional Medical Center got an A grade for the second time in a row. Some of the other Orlando grades include:

  • Florida Hospital Orlando – B
  • Dr. P. Phillips Hospital – A
  • Health Central – A
  • Orlando Regional South Seminole Hospital – A

The four Orlando Health hospitals had previously received C grades from Leapfrog’s safety report released last June, according to the Sentinel. The grading scale runs from A-D and F. Leapfrog grades how well hospitals keep their patients safe from infections, injuries, medical errors and medication errors.

Across the state of Florida, doctors, nurses, ER workers, first responders and other medical professionals work tirelessly to promote the health and wellbeing of Florida residents. Instances of medical malpractice are detours from what is normal, yet Leapfrog’s president has said as many as 1 in 4 people admitted to a US hospital suffers some kind of harm. These egregious errors can devastate the lives of the families they affect.
