SUV Safety Concerns
The main concern relating to SUV safety is the fact that they have a higher rollover rate than any other vehicle on the market. Statistics from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) reflect that SUV’s are three times more likely to rollover than other passenger cars. There are twice as many deaths from SUV rollovers than from rollovers in any other vehicle. The safety of the SUV is compromised by the fact that they are narrower and taller than the average passenger car.
The body of the SUV has maintained the same original design that was contemplated for off-road use. However, now that manufacturers build SUV’s for family use, the vehicles usually are not equipped with roll bars. The higher center of gravity in combination with the absence of safety measures to prevent roof collapse during a rollover can result in deadly consequences.
